The Start of the Final Day

On the 3rd Staines Scout last day in Adelboden we spent it in style and were on the early bus to Kandersteg. But, due to the weather, we turned our adventure to Oeschinensee and headed up the cable car.

And as we got to the top the group headed straight to the Mountain Coaster, which was super-fast and everyone enjoyed the incredible views and racing down it.

Then, at the lake, the group braved a paddle in the glacial waters.

There was rain again, but this didn’t dampen their spirts as we headed to KISC for a wonderful tour with Kate.

She told the group about the history of the Old Chalet, how Baden-Powell found it searching for an International Scout Base and how the campsite map shows the flag of every nationality that is on the camp at that time.

Then, at the flag poles, the 3rd Staines presented Wood Badges for the leaders and Gold, Platinum Chief Scout Awards for members too! Plus, they were even lovely enough to present me as an honorary Scout of their group with their trip necker and badge!

Badge Swapping and Horn Playing

The Scouts then had free time to meet other Scouts and swap badges – with one of the best finds, a clog woggle!

Then, after a wander around Kandersteg the group headed back to Adelboden to pack and get ready for Swiss night.

It was a hilly walk, so everyone really earned their food. The hotel brought out cheese fondue’s, bread for dipping, chips, vegetables and dessert was a fruit salad with pineapple, berries and melon. It was delicious.

After, a traditional Swiss duo played the Swiss horns which echoed through the room (these were instruments traditionally used to communicate over mountains!) Plus, the band even let the 3rd Scouts try to play the instruments – which was loads of fun!

The Last Moments of a Memorable Day!

There were more awards for the 3rd Staines Scout before we headed back to the chalet. On the way back, we saw all the beautiful town lights. Thankfully, the weather held off.

Next morning, the group had a super early morning to catch their coach home but it was a great way to finish of the trip with good food and good fun!

A huge thank you to the 3rd Staines Scouts for embracing all of the activities and bringing fun and energy to the week! It has been great spending time with you and we hope to see you again soon!
