We love the positive impact our adventures bring.

But travel can be a big issue when trying to protect the environment. So, this is our short open letter on what we’ve done so far, what we’re doing and where we’re going next.

Read on.

Our trips are crafted around the togetherness of Guides and Scouts to give your adventure the ultimate boost.

But we know we can bring more by understanding our carbon footprint and knowing the amount of CO2 we release helps us balance or reduce activities unfriendly to our planet.

Plus, we’re honest about our position and know we won’t have all the answers. But for the answers we do have, we aim to make our and your journey greener.

However, that doesn’t mean we aren’t already taking steps to manage our emissions.

Our HQ is moving towards a carbon-balanced setting, with steps already taken to move us in that direction. Steps like:

  • Solar panels
  • Hybrid working
  • Recycling hubs
  • Locally sourced milk
  • Single-use plastic reduction
  • Smart internal lighting
  • Electrical vehicle charger points
  • No printed brochures or on trip paper packs
  • And our Vamoos app takes away the need for on tour paper itineraries

We’re always looking at ways to balance or reduce our carbon footprint. And with your journey involving more coach travel, it adds to that aim.

There are a few variables, like where you travel, but coach emissions tend to be lower per passenger when compared to long or short-haul flights.

And another green win is our cycle to work scheme, where our Venture Abroad family can replace their car travel with a bicycle.

That’s not all though.

Probably our most far-reaching push for sustainable travel are our plans to partner with organisations balancing carbon with green-inspired ambitions.

To get you to your awesome trip, some form of transport will be needed. However, if we can’t reduce we can look to organisations like C-level to help us balance the rest. C-Level partner with global projects designed to give the power back to the local communities. Partnering with them allows us to sponsor international programmes so the local community can defend, rejuvenate, and reduce unsustainable practices damaging their environment.

Finally, we’re looking to become TravelLife accredited. Launched by ABTA and ANVR as well as being supported by a plethora of universities and the European Centre for Ecological and Agricultural Tourism (ECEAT).

And with their help, it shows your organisation is dedicated to including sustainable practices within your operations.

We’re super proud of our push for a greener office and responsible adventures.

We’re on our way to understanding our footprint, starting to make a positive impact and looking to the future so we’re as environmentally friendly as we can be!

Plus, we know we don’t have all the answers. So, we’re looking at organisations like C-Level and Travelife to helps us cut down our carbon footprint even further.
