Our Day Started...

On a pretty morning, our day started with a walk from Alpenflora. And whilst on route, we stepped through the beautiful landscape to the woodcarvers, where we saw the wonderland of wooden sculptures and souvenirs.

Also, there was the warmest welcome from the woodcarving family when we arrived.

The Woodcarving Experience

The family were already carving some so the group could see the making process, with today’s wooden masterpiece a tree with a half happy and half sad face.

Next, they explained the sad face is when groups travel from England, whereas the happy face is arriving in Adelboden (I very much agree!).

Visiting the Wood Carvers workshop means you can get a name engraved in anything you like. Our group loved watching the magic unfold before their eyes as their names were burnt into the wood.

Seeing Cholerenschlucht Gorge

After the woodcarving, we walked back and stopped at Cholerenschlucht Gorge on the way. Our girl guides had a great experience going though the huge gap in the rock and hearing the waterfall echo off the rocks.

Whilst there, one of the leaders mentioned you used to be able to abseil down this which must have been amazing and terrifying all at the same time!

Our Adelboden Walks

After climbing through the gorge, we lunched and then walked to meet the coach. Then, we met the driver who dropped us off at bottom of the hill for Our Chalet.

Wow was the walk steep!

Slowly, we made our way in the heat… and what an achievement it is when you get to the Chalet overlooking the views of Adelboden. Definitely worth the walk!

Our Chalet Song

Next, we joined another UK group for the Pinning Ceremony, where groups were welcomed by Our Chalet Staff and flags for all countries staying at Our Chalet were added to the flag log.

After, we sang the ‘Our Chalet song’, and watched the big flags risen as a welcome. Then, groups were divided for a tour around the Chalet’s and were told about the history as well as the meanings of the Chalets.

A Girl Guides Evening

Once the tour was finished, our group was encouraged to swap badges at the swapping station before heading back down the hill to our Swiss Evening at Alpina.

Our group were joined by another girl guides and had a great time trying Swiss Fondue and listening to the Alphorns!
