In October 2025, the Areley Kings Guides ventured to Disneyland Paris to celebrate their unit’s 50th birthday. This ideal destination was chosen by the girls themselves. The trip was a very important occasion, as the Guide unit was started by the current leader’s mum, making it especially meaningful for everyone involved.

Disneyland Paris was a dream destination picked by the girls to help celebrate our unit’s 50th birthday. As it had been started by my mum, the trip was everything we hoped it would be and more.

From Eurostar to the Enchantment of Disneyland Paris

The group began their trip with a journey on the Eurostar, before arriving in Paris. They excitedly continued onto Disneyland Paris, where they checked in and spent the rest of the evening basking in the magic of the theme park.

The next day started bright and early with a delicious continental breakfast at the hotel, and then it was time to enjoy all the thrills and fantastical elements of Disneyland Paris. The group then spent the next few days taking in the wonderful elements that light up all five senses! They took on wild and winding rollercoasters, tried classic Disney Park meals and saw some of their most beloved childhood characters. The Guides dictated what they did each day, making good use of the Disney app, which held useful information such as queue times and planned their day accordingly.

Unforgettable magical moments

The unit’s highlight of the trip was the fireworks show on their first night. After a long day of travelling, the Guides patiently waited for the display to start, and after the first bang, a mesmerising show of colour commenced. ‘Seeing their faces watching the display made it all worthwhile.’ Helen stated, that’s the moment when she thought this is exactly why we did this.

Building confidence through international travel

As a unit leader, Helen believes that offering the opportunity to travel abroad is important, both for her unit and for other uniformed groups, as it gives young people the chance to see different parts of the world in a safe environment. They can enjoy these experiences with friends and make new ones wherever they go.

We often find the Guides grow in confidence after going on an international trip, and they go on to flourish.
