On Saturday, 12th July, Venture Abroad enjoyed a wonderful day at Magical Midlands in Uttoxeter. With the sun shining brightly and the air filled with laughter and song, it was the perfect day for everyone who attended.
Why is the Magical Midlands such a special event?
Held once every 5 years, this is an event not to be missed! It brings together thousands of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers aged between 4 and 18 for a day of thrills, action and creativity.
It’s also a celebration of what it means to be part of Girlguiding. Through music, dance, and a variety of fun-filled activities, it builds a strong sense of unity and friendship with other units across the region who joined together at Magical Midlands.
Xcite, Xtreme, and Xplore!
Magical Midlands was split into three thrilling sections, Xcite, Xtreme, and Xplore.
The Xcite zone didn’t just promise excitement, it delivered it! High adrenaline activities like fast fairground rides, giant inflatable slides, and zorbing created unforgettable memories for the thousands of young girls. Groups also enjoyed watching circus performers and learning tricks they can show their friends and family back home. This whole section was filled with fun, laughter, and heart-pounding energy!
The Girlguiding units were put to the test in the Xtreme zone, which required nerve, focus, and drive. Groups were challenged in a variety of daring activities, from rock climbing to axe throwing to archery. The girls also got to put on their thinking caps as they explored the science, technology, engineering and mathematics marquee. They participated in a range of experiments and learned from top industry providers in the UK, such as Rolls Royce, National Grid and of course Venture Abroad!
Xplore gave the girls the chance to show off their creative flair. The area pulsed with sound and dance, from the feel-good vibe of a silent disco to the magic of campfire singing. The units also contributed to a large-scale art piece that will be showcased around the Midlands after the event. It’s the perfect area for anyone with an artistic side!
Our very own Katie Farrell attended Magical Midlands with her unit, and this is what she said about the event: “Magical Midlands was an amazing experience. Whether it was the Rainbows being enchanted by the Disney Princesses, the Brownies having a go at soft axe throwing, the Guides pushing themselves on the climbing wall or the Rangers being big kids on the bouncy castle, it really showed what Girlguiding is all about – girls and young women having fun and trying new things. As a leader, I got to see a lot of friends from all over the region, and I know the adults had as much fun as the kids!”
